Varsity All-Star Selection Process

Nomination Period
December 22 - January 3
Electronic survey to collect nominations sent on Thursday, December 22
Deadline to complete is 11:59 PM on Tuesday, January 3
Each Head Coach shall nominate from his team:
    -- 1 forward
    -- 1 defenseman
    -- 1 goaltender
    -- 3 any position
 

Voting Period
7 days: January 6 - 13
Electronic survey to cast votes sent on Friday, January 6
    -- Coaches cannot vote for their own players
    -- Coaches should contact other coaches if they seek more information about players
    -- Coaches should not attempt to lobby for their own players: the mission is to select the best players
Deadline to vote is 11:59 PM on Friday, January 13
    -- All coaches need to cast a full ballot
 

Roster Announcement Date
All-Star Rosters will be announced on the PIHL Power Play Show Wednesday, January 18
    -- Each team shall have 21 players: 12 forwards, 6 defensemen, and 3 goaltenders
    -- Each team shall have 2 coaches: 1 head coach and 1 assistant coach
    
 

Player Commitment Period
5 days: January 18 - 22

-Players please send an email to blake@pihlhockey.com if you CAN'T participate in the all star game by January 22nd at 11:59PM

    *If you are selected for the all star game you do not need to do anything to confirm your participation. We only need to be notified if you     CAN'T participate
    

Alternate Period
4 days: January 23 - 26
Alternates first will be contacted on January 23rd and the PIHL will need confirmation from them for their participation in the all star game

Voting will be done electroncially via a survey sent to all Varsity Head Coaches
 

Class AAA
Coaches from all 11 teams collectively consider all nominated players within the Classification:
    -- Vote to pick the top 24 forwards, top 12 defensemen, and top 6 goaltenders (42 players)
    -- Each team will have a representative on the all-star roster
Selected players are divided into two teams  (Team Black and Team Gold)
    -- First by alternating players between rosters according to number of votes per position
    -- Next by re-sorting players from the same Varsity team onto different All-Star rosters
 

Class AA
Coaches from all 14 teams vote on all nominated players
    -- Vote to pick the top 12 forwards, top 6 defensemen, and top 3 goaltenders from each conference
    -- 21 players from each conference; 42 total players
    -- Each team will have a representative on the all-star roster
Selected players are divided into two teams (Team Black and Team Gold)
    -- First by assigning players from alternating conferences according to number of votes per position
    -- Next by re-sorting players from the same Varsity team onto different All-Star rosters

Class A
Coaches from all 20 teams vote on all nominated players
    -- Vote to pick the top 12 forwards, top 6 defensemen, and top 3 goaltenders from each conference
    -- 21 players from each conference; 42 total players
    -- Each team will have a representative on the all-star roster
Selected players are divided into two teams (Team Black and Team Gold)
    -- First by assigning players from alternating conferences according to number of votes per position
    -- Next by re-sorting players from the same Varsity team onto different All-Star rosters
 

Division 2
Players from all 8 Class B and all 6 Class C teams are considered collectively
Coaches from all 13 teams vote on all players within Division 2:
    -- Vote to pick the top 24 forwards, top 12 defensemen, and top 6 goaltenders (42 players)
    -- Each team will have a representative on the all-star roster
Selected players are divided into two teams  (Team Black and Team Gold)
    -- First by alternating players between rosters according to number of votes per position
    -- Next by re-sorting players from the same Varsity team onto different All-Star roster

​Coaches Selection AAA, AA, A, & D2

The top 4 teams in each division based on win percentage will have their head coach selected for the All Star Game

Standings will be frozen on January 11th

1st and 2nd place will be the Head Coaches

3rd and 4th place will be the Assistant Coaches

Sunday, January 29th at Alpha Ice Complex, Harmarville, PA
   Div 2: 11:00 AM
   Class A: 1:00 PM
   Class AA: 3:00 PM
   Class AAA: 5:00 PM

Players will again be wearing their Varsity team's jersey
   -- Dark/light assignments will be made when rosters are announced

Selected players and coaches will be given further instruction after rosters are finalized
